I was cooking a shepherd’s pie one Sunday evening in the spring of 2005 when a mate of mine phoned me up rather excited about an idea of a skinning up tray.

He wanted to make a wooden tray with a ‘v’ section the length to fit a king sized skin and a small corner pocket for skins etc., it was to be called ‘King of Trays’.

After a lot of thought we decided if we wanted to make quite a few, perhaps a plastic vacuum forming would be a better solution. After having a couple of meetings with a vacuum formers, my business partners decided to go on a trip round the world and leave the project to me.

I decided to change the name and really couldn’t decide what to. Then it came to me, ‘SKINNY’ (I am quite a slim chap!). I designed the ‘V’ section to go right across the tray because some like to build big ones and it also doubles as a strengthening strut. The storage was a tough one though, I decided that standard 2oz tobacco tins would be the best thing because they fit everything you need just right and if you lose them, they are easily replaceable.

I hand drew the tray on a sheet of A4 and handed it to the fabricators, within weeks I had 20 proto types made. I sent a couple to the patent office, used a few for advertising and took the rest to parties for folk to test. The feedback was very good so I decided to go all the way!

Since then I’ve had the Skinny tray design registered, the company name Skinny trademarked, put the tray in new products section of Weedworld magazine and got this website done!

I hope you all enjoy the product people, and remember, a Skinny tray goes a long way!

Many thanks to Kirky and Pedgie, couldn’t have done it without you guys.

Cheers,

Tim Rial
